Kelvin Kakenya conquers 6km men’s Race at Chepsaita

After clinching the third place at the Athletics Kenya trials for Africa U18 and U20 Championships, Kelvin Kakenya, came and conquered in the U20 Men – 8km at the third edition of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country championships, held on Saturday (06) in Uasin Gishu County.
The 18 year-old, who took his first international outing at the ABSA Run Your City Durban 10k, where he finished in a distant eleventh place, secured his first victory over the hilly chepsaita course and emerge the winner in a time of 25:20 and was followed in second place by Emmanuel Kipchirchir, who came home seven seconds later with Alex Pelor Meriokal wrapping up the podium in 25:33.
Kakenya who is also a form four student at the Chepsaita Secondary School said, “The race was great, but it was very tough. This is a hard course, and it has helped me gauge my form. I competed in the national cross country and missed the podium but I’m glad to have redeemed myself and finished first here.”
Nicholas Ktum Losiwareng and Andrew Akori Kiptoo finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 25:49 and 25:51.
