Lazio have struggled so far this season after a transfer embargo scuppered early plans for rejuvenation under returning head coach Maurizio Sarri. Last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to fierce rivals Roma underlined the issues currently faced by Sarri and his injury-depleted squad.
Due to a number of suspensions and injuries in the heart of midfield, Sarri has turned to a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Danilo Cataldi and Toma Basic in the heart of midfield.
Cataldi on Derby defeat and appearances milestone

The Biancocelesti midfielder reflected on a difficult week after last weekend’s loss to Roma:
“It hasn’t been a week like the others, losing the derby always hurts but we have to get back on track,” he told DAZN via TuttoMercatoWeb.
On his appearances milestone, the Italian admitted “It’s a great milestone. One of my goals has always been to spend many years here, you know what I feel for Lazio,” he said. “All together we have to get through this moment, results cloud many people’s opinions. Tonight we have to show that we are players worthy of Lazio.”
