Joyciline Jepkosgei runs a World Leading time in Valencia


Former World half marathon world record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei stormed to victory in the Women’s race with the fastest time this year in the world, at the 44th edition of the Valencia Marathon held on Sunday (07) in Valencia, Spain

The 31 year-old who is also the double world marathon major champion, claimed victory in a record breaking time after erasing the previous course record of 2:14.58, set three years ago by the 2023 World marathon champion, Amane Beriso of Ethiopia with a new course record of 2:14.00, which is also her new personal best.

Jepkosgei who become the first woman ever to break 65 minutes, held off her compatriot and Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir, who finished second in a new personal best of 2:14.43 with Belgium’s Chloé Herbiet wrapping up the podium three finishes in a new National Record time of 2:20.38.

Jepkosgei who unofficially broke the World Athletics-ratified records for 10 km, 15km and 20km along the way, breaking a total of four world records in a single event, becomes the second fastest woman in the Kenya’s rich history after Ruth Chepngetich who holds the marathon record with a time of 2:09.56.
