Joseph Morales Shines in UFC Comeback, Submits Matt Schnell in the First Round

Morales (13-2) entered his second stint with the promotion after earning his way back by winning The Ultimate Fighter 33. His victory over Alibi Idiris at UFC 319 in Chicago secured both a UFC contract and the TUF crown. Now, he looked to make a statement against the veteran Schnell as he began his climb up the flyweight ranks.
Round 1 – Schnell took control of the center of the cage early, but Morales looked comfortable striking from range until Schnell changed levels and secured a takedown. The advantage was short-lived, as Morales quickly reversed position and transitioned to top side control.
From there, Morales looked to free his left arm to create space for ground-and-pound, but Schnell did well to limit his movement. Morales adjusted, locking up a kimura before smoothly transitioning to a crucifix position, where he began landing sharp elbows.
As Schnell tried to scramble free, Morales snatched a lightning-fast guillotine, forcing the immediate tap.
An outstanding performance from Joseph Morales, who kicked off his second UFC stint in dominant fashion.
