David Onama Believes Top 10 Awaits with Win at UFC Vegas 110

Featherweight David Onama enters his first UFC main event this Saturday at the Apex in Las Vegas, paired up with Steve Garcia in a fan-friendly scrap that, while lacking star power, may still provide explosives.

Fans were a bit surprised at the booking; it seems Onama was momentarily taken aback as well when he got the news. “It was just, I was like ‘wow,’” Onama admitted during Wednesday’s UFC Vegas 110 media day. “For the main event, at the Apex, where I lost my UFC debut, to becoming the main event at the Apex – it was amazing. When I got the news, it was exciting for me, the fans, everybody that always supported me.”

The explosive nature in the fight comes from the striking ability of both Garcia and Onama, and the latter for one plans on keeping the fight on the feet. Even if he does have a handful of submission wins on his record.

“It’s going to be on the feet for me. I don’t know what his game plan is, but yeah, most of the time it’ll be standing.”

Sitting at #13 in the featherweight division to Garcia’s #12, 31-year old believes a win this Saturday will earn him a spot in the top 10.

“A win over Steve Garcia will put me in the top 10 (of the) division for sure,” Onama stated. “Getting a win over him would definitely climb me up. Especially a main event against a tough opponent, it’ll definitely put me in the top 10.”
