Athletics Kenya mourns North Rift Region Chairman

Athletics Kenya is mourning the passing of the North Rift Region chairman, Jackson Pkemoi, popularly known as Kabila, who died last week after a short illness.
Pkemoi, a respected administrator and long-serving athletics official, was the brother of former women’s world marathon record holder Tegla Loroupe. He also previously served as manager of the IOC Refugee Programme, where he played a key role in supporting displaced athletes.
Speaking yesterday, Tegla confirmed that Jackson will be laid to rest on Tuesday December 9, 2025, at his home in Karas Village in Kapenguria. She revealed that he had been critically ill for the past three weeks after struggling with blood pressure and kidney complications.
Jackson is survived by his wife and five children. Athletics Kenya pays tribute to Loroupe’s dedication, integrity, and deep commitment to athlete development. We remember him as a hardworking and selfless official whose leadership brought notable progress in the North Rift Region, particularly in strengthening youth programmes and grassroots structures.
Athletics Kenya extends its heartfelt sympathies to the Loroupe family, friends, and the entire North Rift athletics community, noting that Jackson’s loss leaves a significant void in the sport. We pray for comfort and strength for the bereaved family during this difficult time and celebrate his enduring legacy of service.
