Magnussen's brother to make car racing debut

The half-brother of former Haas Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen is due to make his car racing debut in GB4 this season with Fortec Motorsport.

Luca Magnussen, the 15-year-old son of sportscar star Jan, has grown up around motorsport and attended his first race event when he was just 14 days old.

He subsequently moved into karting, winning the Danish X30 senior title in 2023, and is now graduating to cars in GB4.

The Dane will link up with the Fortec squad that powered Linus Granfors to last season’s title, having impressed in a test outing.

Jan Magnussen explained last year that he wanted Luca to follow in his footsteps by competing in the United Kingdom and to take advantage of the contacts he made from his time in Formula Ford 1600 and British F3.

“I’m incredibly happy to take the next step in my career and proud to team up with such a renowned and experienced team like Fortec Motorsports,” said Luca Magnussen.

“The team has already given me a warm welcome, and now I’m just excited to get started and show what I can do.”

Fortec team boss Oliver Dutton added: “Luca has shown incredible potential during his karting career and particularly impressed us during his test at Donington Park.

“His dedication and skill make him a valuable addition to our line-up, and we are confident he will make significant strides this season.”

Magnussen completes Fortec’s three-car GB4 line-up and will be partnered by Ginetta Junior graduate Thomas Ingram Hill and Jack Taylor, who was ninth in the GB4 points last year.

The category is introducing a new car for 2025 that is heavily based upon the old GB3 contender and this is proving popular as several additional teams have been attracted to the series’ ranks, including long-standing GB3 squads Douglas Motorsport and Hillspeed along with Ginetta outfit Pace Performance.

Among the other drivers so far confirmed is former Mercedes junior Daniel Guinchard, who has not raced since dropping out of British F4 partway through the 2023 campaign.

The British GT support series is due to get under way at Donington Park at the start of April.
